The Republic of Uganda and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have officially commenced a visa waiver agreement for holders of diplomatic and service passports, a move aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and facilitating official travel. Signed on 7th May 2025, the agreement allows eligible travelers to enter each country without a visa under clearly defined conditions.

Under the agreement, UAE nationals holding diplomatic, special, ordinary, and service passports can enter Uganda visa-free for up to 90 days. Similarly, Ugandan diplomats and service passport holders can travel to the UAE visa-free for 90 days within any 180-day period preceding each day of stay. Ordinary Ugandan passport holders are still required to obtain a visa through standard application procedures.

The visa waiver for UAE nationals traveling to Uganda became effective on 10th February 2026, following ratification of the agreement. Travelers must carry a valid passport, provide proof of onward or return travel if required, and comply with standard immigration procedures.

This development highlights the growing diplomatic and official cooperation between Uganda and the UAE, ensuring smoother travel for government officials while maintaining national security and immigration standards.

Authorities emphasize that this agreement is limited to the specified passport categories. The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Uganda remains committed to facilitating legitimate travel, promoting efficiency for official visitors, and supporting bilateral partnerships in key areas of mutual interest.

With this visa waiver in place, Uganda and the UAE are expected to see enhanced official exchanges, stronger diplomatic ties, and more seamless travel for diplomats and service officials, reflecting a significant step forward in Uganda–UAE relations.
