Uganda Airlines has entered into an interline partnership with Airlink, the leading private carrier in Southern Africa, a move that is expected to broaden travel opportunities for passengers throughout the region.
Under this new arrangement, Uganda Airlines’ services will connect seamlessly with Airlink’s broad Southern African network through Johannesburg’s O.R. Tambo International Airport. Travellers departing from Entebbe will be able to book a single ticket to more than 45 regional destinations, with both passengers and baggage checked through to their final stops—eliminating the need for separate reservations or additional check-ins in Johannesburg.
Uganda Airlines Chief Commercial Officer Adedayo Olawuyi welcomed the collaboration, stating: “We are excited to partner with Airlink, a respected airline known for its extensive regional network.” He added that “this interline agreement is a significant step in our aspirations of making intra-African travel easier. It provides our customers with unparalleled convenience and choice when travelling to key destinations across Southern Africa, all on a single ticket.”
For Airlink, the partnership strengthens its strategic reach across the continent. Chief Commercial Officer Katherine Whelan noted: “This partnership with Uganda Airlines strengthens our commitment to connecting Africa.” She further remarked that “it opens up a vital gateway in East Africa for our customers, and, in turn, provides Ugandan travellers with efficient and direct access to Southern Africa’s key economic and tourism centres. It’s a win-win for both airlines and our customers.”
The agreement is expected to enhance regional connectivity for travellers heading to major business and leisure hubs, including Cape Town, Durban, Victoria Falls, Windhoek and Gaborone. Airlink customers will also gain smooth access to Uganda Airlines’ expanding African routes, which the state-owned carrier views as an important contributor to increased trade and tourism.
Launched commercially in 2019, Uganda Airlines now flies to 17 destinations and operates one of the youngest fleets globally, having earned the Ch-Aviation Youngest Aircraft Fleet Award five times. The airline plans further growth, including new services to Europe, complementing its current operations across Africa, the Middle East and Asia.
Airlink, founded in 1992, runs a fleet of 70 Embraer aircraft across 67 routes in 15 Southern African nations. It supports worldwide connectivity through partnerships with 43 international airlines, 11 of them codeshare agreements, and manages the FlyNamibia franchise. The carrier is also an IATA member and adheres to the IOSA safety audit programme.
