President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has officially commissioned the NEC Meat and Beans Processing Factory at NEC Farm Katonga in Kisozi, Gomba District.
National Enterprise Corporation (NEC), the commercial arm of the Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF), has been expanding its investments in agriculture and agro-processing through NEC Farm Katonga in Kisozi, Gomba District. The farm is home to livestock production, bull-fattening projects and the Meat Export Support Services Project, making it a strategic location for the new processing facility.
According to the President, the factory is a joint venture between the National Enterprise Corporation (NEC) and Kenyan investor Mr. Francis Ragwa.
"I congratulate Mr. Ragwa for his vision and initiative. NEC provided the land, but the idea was his," President Museveni said.
The President also assured investors that Uganda has the capacity to supply the factory with the raw materials it requires.
"Our coffee, milk and livestock production continue to grow because of proper organisation, and we shall continue mobilising our farmers to produce even more," he said.
Museveni further called on government leaders to actively support investors, saying that in the current "Kisanja of No More Sleep," every minister should act as an omusumba (pastor) of their sector by ensuring investors have the infrastructure they need to succeed.
The President was received upon arrival by NEC Managing Director Lt. Gen. James Mugira, who later led him on a guided tour of the newly commissioned processing facility before the official launch.
The event attracted Cabinet ministers, representatives of the Uganda Armed Forces, senior government officials and other dignitaries.
NEC's senior leadership also attended the ceremony, led by Lt. Gen. James Mugira alongside Corporation Secretary Mr. Mukombozi Daniel and general managers from the corporation's various subsidiaries.
Among those present were Maj. Gen. Sabiiti Muzeeyi of Luwero Industries Limited, Eng. Brian Buhanda of NEC Engineering Works & Construction, Maj. Edgar Ankwasa of NEC Uzima Water, as well as other senior NEC management officials.
The newly commissioned facility is expected to contribute to Uganda's efforts to increase value addition in the agricultural sector by processing meat and beans locally.
